I graduated college, now what?!
As a recipient of my B.A. in Communications from The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, I am a proud alumnae and college graduate.. now what?! Students are often led to believe that one's dream job awaits you immediately following graduation but, this is not the case. In fact, students should realize that the ball is in your court now! A degree certifies your dedication to furthering one's education and creating a new pathway for self. However, what one decides to do with his or her degree is where the challenge arises.
After a long, vigorous search into the current job market, I learned that those "dream jobs" do exist, but are hidden. It calls for now what you know; but who you know. In this tough economy, one must realize that earning a degree is only the beginning. Depending on your area of study, one will have to create their own pathway, how so?
1. Set long-term goals for yourself.
With these targeted goals, you will be able to map out what steps need to be taken in order to reach these goals.
2. Consider post-graudate work.
If you feel that you may lack in an area that will be beneficial towards your long-term goals; consider graduate work in that field. It can only enhance your professional career.
3. Stay active!
Continue to exercise the skills acquired during undergraduate coursework such as volunteering, engaging in service organizations, and other field related activities
4. Be optomistic!
The only person standing in the way of your dreams is you! Know that the sky is the limit and the world is yours. With a positive attitude comes positive results.
Be an awesome gra.... pave our own way!
